What happens when stories are not told?
The Flowers of Srebrenica is an international theatre performance about memory, guilt and responsibility, based on Aidan Hehir’s illustrated novel and personal testimony. The performance is framed by an ensemble of female voices that break into the narrative, challenging and leading the audience on a journey from Sarajevo to the Srebrenica memorial site – and back to our own time, marked by conflict, denial and propaganda.
The performance marks 30 years since the Srebrenica genocide in July 1995, and premiered in Sarajevo in July 2025 before touring to Tuzla, Belgrade, London, Pisa – and Oslo. With physical theatre, projections and first-hand experiences from actors with backgrounds from Bosnia, Rwanda, Ukraine and Ireland, the audience is invited to reflect on how one can become adversaries, a warning and a call to cope.
