Welcome to the screening of the film 'Seven Winters in Tehran’ by director Steffi Niederzoll. The film tells the story of a brave, young, Iranian woman in her struggle for justice and human rights. The film screening will be followed by a panel discussion and a reception. This event is part of the Oslo Peace Days 2023 and hosted by PRIO and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Norway.

Seven Winters in Tehran is a gripping and evocative documentary about 19 year old Reyhaneh Jabbari. In a business meeting with a new client, the client tries to rape her, and she stabs him in self-defense. Later that day, she is arrested for murder. Her trial results in a death penalty sentence. Thanks to personal and secretly recorded videos provided by Reyhaneh's family, their testimonies and the letters written by Reyhaneh in prison, the film retraces the fate of a woman who becomes a symbol of resistance and women's rights even beyond the borders of Iran.

After the film screening, there will be a panel discussion. In light of the recent year of Iranian women’s mass protests against the regime and the Nobel Peace Prize to Narges Mohammadi, Samira Amini Hajibashi (PRIO) and Mahmood Amiry Moghadam (Iran Human Rights & University of Oslo) will discuss the film, the situation for women’s rights in Iran and the country’s death penalty laws. The panel will be moderated by Pinar Tank (PRIO).

  • After the event, the audience is welcome to join a reception, courtesy of the Embassy of the Netherlands.

This event is a collaboration between PRIO and the Embassy of the Netherlands in Norway, and a part of Oslo Peace Days 2023. View the full programme of Oslo Peace Days here.
